Lu Dawn - ADN Graduation 1988

Update:  Over the past two years, Lu Dawn & daughter Gayle, have been busy with Girl Scout Troop 1945 here in Spring Lake, North Carolina.  The troop fluctuates between 10 to 15 girls ranging in age from 8 to 11 at present time.  When we first took over the troop we started out in the fall of 2009 with 7 to 8 girls, all of which were Brownies.  This year we have Brownies and Juniors.  We are looking forward to next year, 2010-2011 and working with mainly Juniors.  This has been a learning experience of a Life Time for both of us!

Lu Dawn first graduated from Robeson Technical Institute, St. Pauls, N.C. in 1972.  She was over forty years old when she graduated from Robeson Community College ADN Program in 1988.
Her inspiration was her mother, Millie.  Millie pursued her H.S. diploma to complete her

cosmetology license in order to teach classes at RCC.  Millie had a sixth grade education back at Bull Creek, Mo., having to quit school to help out at home when her father, James Ross Hilton, took sick.

In 1980 Lu Dawn, her sister, mother, daughter and niece traveled by car to Missouri to get a grasp on their ancestors.
That was a memorable trip and although we were unable to retrieve some of what we were searching for, we did retrieve a goodly amount of valuable information & data and we had tons of fun doing so.
Lu Dawn began her family genealogy searching endeavors in the late 1970's and continued same through the early 1980's.
Since then her searches have been few and sporatic.  With the death of Mildred, "Momma" in 2004, Lu Dawn decided to attempt to put everything all together in some sort of organized format.
Back in the 1970's & 1980's aides such as the internet were all just about unheard of.
One had to write actual letters and post them, then wait forever in some cases, for responses.
These were exciting times.  Excitement like  the feeling of anticipation walking in from the mailbox reading a letter and repeating the names over and
over -"Susan Dietlou Dutton".  She knew that name.  She had seen it.  She had copied it down.  She had it in a file.  Yuppers!  She was able to connect this woman to a John Fassett after years of searching by the letter writer!
It is moments like that, that we ametuer genealogists live for.
It is hoped that your visit to this site is a joyful one, in which you can link to your past and to ours.
There are so many Surnames for any searcher to consider.
This site intends to address most of these Surnames in one way or another.
